A breathtaking documentary “The Oath”, directed by Laura Poitras, touches upon the topics of terrorism. Among them are such actual questions like the main reasons, which make people become terrorists.
This is a true story of two men, whose ways are inevitably crossed in this life and caused lots of events, coming next to their meeting. The first man is called Abu Jandal, who works as a taxi-driver in Yemen. The second one is Salim Hamdan, who is a brother-in-law of Jandal. Hamdan stays at the prison of Guantanamo, waiting for the military sentence.
The events of the documentary are developing alongside with the personal evolution of these two men and their views, which strongly influenced their entire life. The real story about how Jandal becomes bin Laden’s personal driver and Hamdan – his bodyguard is described in the film. The documentary provides the audience with the chronicles from Guantanamo, Al-Qaeda courses, Osama bin Laden, the events of the 9th of September and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
“The Oath” is a spectacular political thriller, which has won the price at Sundance Film Festival in 2010, in nomination of Best Documentary Cinematography.
