“Hubble 3D” is a breathtaking documentary, based on real events, happened during the recent mission of astronauts to the space last May. Their purpose was to repair and upgrade the Hubble Space Telescope, used to explore our Universe and capture images of it, including distant galaxies. So the crew of astronauts onboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis was to make a grandiose voyage, counting 350 miles above the Earth.

The 3D images, taken by The IMAX 3D camera they had on board, followed their mission step by step. As NASA said, it had been one the most difficult and important voyages taken during the last years. The first space observatory in the world, the telescope considered to be the window into our celestial surroundings. So it was of great importance for NASA and all the humanity to repair the Hubble.

The documentary, narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, has become an unprecedenting guided tour to the space, provided by numerous 3D images, showing the repair process. The astronauts had to take five spacewalks to make the necessary work on repair and upgrade. Especially stunning were the close-up shots, depicting the attempts to grasp the telescope with the help of the shuttle’s mechanical arm.

“Hubble 3D” has been produced by IMAX and Warner Bros. Pictures in cooperation with NASA.
