Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo” is a documentary, describing one of the passions of Japanese – for various kinds of bugs. What is it – a tradition, which is deeply rooted, a part of ancient culture, philosophy or something else hidden in Japanese mentality?
Whatever it is, the reflection of this hobby can be seen all over in Japan. Textiles, decorated with beetles; poetry, inspired by the grace of insects; architecture, graphics and paintings and of course gardens – all of them represent the deep respect and even worship to little buzzing creatures.
Look at that little boy in a pet shop, who is admired by his would-be pet – a rainbow beetle! No matter, that it costs more than sixty dollars, the price is worth buying a new friend like that.
Or look at the couples, who have a trip outdoors in order to enjoy the unforgettable bugs show in the countryside. Thousands of little crickets with that chorus sound make any Japanese excited to the bottom of his heart. And nothing can be more romantic than the myriads of insects at night – the green lights of fireflies gleaming in the grass and all around you.
The insect admirers take every chance to spend their time in the company of their beloved beetles – real, painted or filmed. This film is the story about insects and the passion for them.
