“Casino Jack” is a documentary, created by Oscar winner Alex Gibney, who is a writer and a director of the film, laughing at the modern portrait of up-to-date Washington. The main theme, discussed in the film is corruption in all its manifestations. Following the hero of the documentary Jack Abramoff, the audience gets the chance to know more of the ways of how business, illegality and politics coexist in this world.
“Casino Jack” is a story based on real events, taken from the places, where money and corruption rule everything. Indian casinos, Chinese sweetshops, Russian spies and killings in Miami are connected between each other, coming to a political intrigue of international importance.
The need of some politicians to become elected by any means is highlighted in the film. Lots of millions, spent for their election campaigns, including waiving the fundamental principles of the so-called American democracy becomes a tradition. And all this seems to be the right thing to do for the sake of being elected.
The documentary touches upon the power of the purse and its role in the political processes as the main factor, determining the status of a man in modern politics.
