Travelling to Cambodia in 2000, filmmaker Anne Bass discovers there a charming and talented boy called Sokvannara Sar. Being only sixteen years old, he creates a profound impression on Anne by his natural grace dancing.

She decides to give a young talent a chance to move from his native country to the United States of America, where he could start to take Ballet lessons. Anne couldn’t ever imagine that she would open a new ballet star to the world. Although it seems to be difficult for the Cambodian guy to find a common language with the Ballet society he got into. But he tries to do his best. Sy, as he is called now, begins to attend lessons at School of the American Ballet, which is known to be the most prestigious in New York. His appearance on a Ballet stage causes a kind of revolution as in himself so in the art form of Ballet. Sy’s dream to become a great dancer comes true.

“Dancing Across Borders” is a great story, telling the viewer about the nuances of adaptation in a foreign country, professional growth and giving a detailed look into the Ballet backstage. The film shows, that not only talent but also hardworking are the necessary parts of success, whatever you do.
